JAK Golf Day 2009
NATIONAL TREE DAY WORKS IN WELL WITH THE 10th JAK GOLFING WEEKEND
The Eudunda Golf Club created a very moving day on the
Sunday of its 2 day golfing weekend by allowing the Sons of
the fathers who pioneered and played the golf course to
plant a tree in memory of them as they progressed from the
4th hole to the 5 tee.
Robbie Crowhurst and Martin Maynard also planted trees in
memory of the loss of their children Katelyn and Leigh who
very recently passed away. "Golf coursed around the world
all have some sort of a feature and this now gives a whole
new meaning to these families allowing them to be an even
bigger part of the to the Eudunda Golf Club" said President
Roy Fiegert.
The quality field of 93 players enjoyed the magnificent
weather on both days starting on the Saturday with the
Legacy Ambrose competition where teams of 4's played some
very serious and not so serious golf. The eventual winners
of Paul and Kip Laucke, Preston Eva and Deon Heidenreich set
a new course record with an 8 under 63 played some brilliant
golf enjoying the magnificent facilities. The runners up who
included Martin & Craig Maynard along with Garry & Cruise
Matthews were just one stroke behind. The NAGA was won by
the T Shirt City team of Viraj, Jason, Aaron and Adhel who
enjoyed the day knowing they got their monies worth.
Legatee Edger Zander presented the trophies thanking the EGC
along with the Knight Family for allowing the RSL to be a
part of the weekend. He also thanked Bistro for manning the
Bundy Bear hole where he raised over $450.00 for Legacy. The
laughs were many as balls flew in all directions having
people running for cover. Thanks Bistro for your tireless
effort along with the Bundy Company who supported the event
in the way of prizes. In closing Edger especially thanked
the players for making the Legacy day one of the biggest
events on the EGC calendar again in 2009.
The 19th hole certainly was entertaining on Saturday Night
because of the wonderful field who were staying at Eudunda
overnight at different accommodation houses allowing them
easy access to the golf club to do it all again on Sunday.
Sunday started again with an early breakfast in the Club
house and the atmosphere was building with players warming
up and talking some very serious golf. Captain Paul Laucke
was in charge of registrations handling it with ease and
then handing the days proceedings to President Roy who took
control of the minutes silence to remember the Dad's who
were the pioneers and of course Katelyn Crowhurst who passed
away only 2 weeks ago.
The Knight Family in attendance were asked to hit the first
balls to start the days play and on the sound of the double
barrel shot gun play started on each hole.
After playing 9 holes lunch was served which was organized
by Mary Laucke and her team of helpers which I might add was
second to none that have been prepared in years gone by.
Rossco Rohde looked the part in the kitchen but the dress
and the wig was a little over the top. Well done Rossco it
took a very brave man to stick it out in the kitchen with 10
ladies all day.
Due to the perfect day the sea of blue Polo's matched the
colour of the sky making the photos very clear and the golf
a treat to play. During the 2nd 9 the wind came up sorting
out the lesser golfer and the score cards were changing
quite dramatically.
As players progressed back to the club house after a big day
the stories were many and the 19th hole was alive and very
well.
Florence Knight presented the eventual winner of the Jack
Knight Memorial Trophy for the second time to Jamie Trezise
from the Thaxted Park golf club with a very tidy 1 over par
73 off the stick followed by the old Champ Roy Fiegert with
a 74.
The EGC Handicap winner was local player John Mosey with a
net 66 followed by Dion Heidenreich with a 67.
The winners of the T Shirt City Father and Son Competition
were Peter & Jamie Trezise with a combined new record of 154
off the stick followed by Ashley & Zac Green. Other fathers
and sons to compete were Billy & Liam Knight, Malcolm &
Dylan Bell, Condor & Gabe Laucke not forgetting Tony & Adam
Eckermann.
There were many novelty event won by a big mixture of
players but the main two being firstly The 2 day Leith
Maynard Long drive event which was won by Willow from
Kapunda with a 260 metre drive and then secondly the much
sort after Potty Putter comp which was eventually won in a
play off between Brian Griffiths, Denys Knight and Andrew
Maynard with Griffo the victor handling the conditions with
ease. This event caused much laughter and the club gained
some good financial benefits from the competition.
There many interesting stories of the days play captured and
recorded by Peter, Jen, Toby and Luke Herriman then shown in
the club rooms on the big screen after the days play during
dinner. Thanks must go to the Web South team once again.
In closing the day President Roy and Captain Paul thanked
the many helper for their efforts making the 2 days so
successful such as Des Pfeiffer and John Mosey for donating
and cooking the lamb on both days, Sandy, Mary, Kath and
other ladies for running the kitchen superbly and providing
the players and onlookers with magnificent lunches. Matt
Twartz and Paul Laucke for supervising the drinks cart, ably
delivered by Macca and his son along with the daily
competitions respectively with minimum of fuss (Well done
Guys). Soup was made for the players by people outside the
club namely Marcus Oates and Rodney along with the wives of
committee members which was really appreciated.
The Bar naming rights for season 2010 were auctioned once
again by Des Pfeiffer and the 19th Hole sign was won by the
Gehling family with a staggering donation which the club is
truly appreciative of but when making his acceptance speech
Wayne Gehling suggested that it is not about the money it
was the memories then and now of the good times spent
especially by his mother at the club is the reason for the
donation.

Golf Tip of the week: The person who suggests that golf is a
way to ruin a good walk should probably be using a golf
buggy.
